That would work.
But I would imagined that you could re-apply a spoken nickname for any Pokemon at any time.
It would be ridiculous if you had to work out how to pronounce a foreign word, particular if it was Japanese.

Yeah, that's the biggest downside to it.

Here's hoping the Nintendo Super-3D-Surround-Sound-Ultra-Double-Screen-Game-Cannon and Pokemon Gen 22 has voice recognition.

Shishiko the Lion Cub Pokemon, a Fire/Normal type that learns a move called Battle Cry which lowers attack (# of stages unknown)
Furabebe the Lone Flower Pokemon, a Fairy-type that learns a move called Fairy Wind
Your friends Sana, Tieruno and Toroba who start their journey from Asame Town the same time as you
Pansy and Viola (English name), the latter is the first gym leader
Your rival (the opposite gender you choose) goes by the name Callum (boy) or Serena (girl)
