Hopefully, Nintendo's planning on making a remake for the 3DS just like Heart Gold/Soul Silver's remake on the DS and Fire Red/Leaf Green's remake on GBA.

It'd save the trouble of requiring a DS or DS lite and every generation's game to get those Gen III Pokémon to Gen VI. You would have to migrate them to Diamond/Pearl, Pokétransfer them to Black/White, then Poké transport them to X and Y, which is only available starting December 27th.
Plus, don't forget the pesky Gen-V-can't-transfer-items rule.

The whole reason why Gens I and II were remade is so that you can have compatibility through all gens.
