You don't need to make your Pokemon able to counter everything, Nidoking isn't exactly greased lightning so a lot of things are going to be faster than you and be able to just mop up with a STAB super-effective move

same-type attack bonus
if a pokemon uses a move that is the same type as itself it gets a 50% boost
