Author Topic: [RELEASE] Wire Effect - Now with download link!  (Read 6033 times)

So do you need to do those console commands? Cuz if you do i'm probably just going to go to my corner and cry.

Im probably going to fix and release next weekend.

Please don't. Let Tammy do it, its his code. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. I'm sure Tammy is having lots of fun making it and if you just re-do it, it kind of ruins it for him.

I'm probably not going to be working on this anymore unless there's a major bug. So if you would like to improve this and release it officially, PLEASE DO SO.

Nope, I've included a tool, the "Wire Wand", so you can mess around with them without needing the console.

I just ran a test to see how much more efficient using particles to render the wires instead. I found that particles give me average 132.3 FPS compared to average 75.9 FPS for static shapes, so I think I am going to make it use particles.

Particles also give a little more freedom for the appearance of wires. The thing I don't like about them is that they are not visible through transparent bricks. However, with that much of a performance difference I think I'll have to use them.

130 fps with how many particles?

I know I said I probably wouldn't be updating, but I did. Beta 3 is out.

Attachment is a picture of my test build. Of course FPS will vary depending on your hardware and if there are a lot of bricks.

You might have trouble when updating the wire's slack / position if you don't use ParticleEmitterNode.inspectPo stApply(); afterwards

I assume that the wires don't save? The way it should be set up is that the wire is in the emitter menu and then you name two bricks the same thing and set both of them to the emitter and it links them. Maybe the wand could simply be used to set the emitter/name them automatically?

Would there be any way of making events like relays run through the wires to other bricks? Because that would be cool.

I actully think I am going to release this myself after all now that I have figured out how I'm going to make this work.

I'll have to look into that. Maybe something like fireRelayWire.

I don't really understand the commands

Can you put a example

Wow, can't wait to try this out :o

You know, the first time I think I ever saw you was when you made brickbuddies. Now I'm seeing you absolutely everywhere throwing mods out of your pocket like candy! XD
