Yosher this is called ad hominem
I can just as easily say you have no friends because you're browsing an internet forum. What ever happened to providing a meaningful argument on your side with evidence and compelling words?
This is an argument, not a stuff-slinging petty name-calling buffet
Calling someone an idiot
is not ad hominem.
"You're an idiot!" =/= Ad HominemCalling someone an idiot because of their opinions
is not ad hominem.
"You're an idiot if you think a flat tax would help our country! =/= Ad HominemSaying somebody's opinion is wrong because they are less qualified than you,
is ad hominem.
"You have no idea what you're talking about, you've never been educated on the subject so you can't pose an argument about it." = Ad HominemThat's why ad hominem is called a "logical fallacy", because it's a claim purporting that an argument is flawed based on the person proposing it, rather than the actual tenants of the argument. It'd be like if an idiot told an astrophysicist that the Earth was round, and he responded with "You're an idiot, the Earth isn't round." Plainly, he doesn't offer any evidence for his claim other than that his opponent is an idiot, and to try to debunk an argument with that is more-often-than-not logically fallacious.
Saying that somebody doesn't have friends because they browse the internet isn't ad hominem either, it's just a weak insult.
