Please don't let this end up like the Island Survival RPG mod, where it was released immediately and a bunch of people hosted it, but no one really played it. Just keep it private and then when it dies you release it. Mods like this seem better when hosted by the person who made it, since they know exactly what they're doing.
im probly never gonna release this. making an add-on for your server is one thing but making one for everyone is another. and i dont want a bunch of noobly admins givin themselves all the powers either.
edit: Crew system seems to be about done besides any cool suggestions people want. I can tell it's going to have to be tested alot. There are alot of check to make sure people don't bug it up, but bugging it up is what beta testing it for! After touching things up and some minor testing, I am going to move on to making more core parts. (lets see what my list of things to make sure i do says...) Treasure, basic rowboat summoning, and brick damage.
reminder for myself: I am going to make treasure tier based on the outside, then add classes within each tier. Tiers basically tell you what the value of the treasure it. Less valuable treasure is generated in larger quantities than rare treasure. Common treasure should generate in chunks of 20-30 (remember the terrain map is big and the boundaries set will be pretty far away) every 30 minutes, with a cap on treasure limit. Rare treasure can feature server wide event messages and clues.
also: helpful tip for when the game starts. Making your home base far away can be both good and bad. If you construct a spawn zone (expensive, considering if it should be added), returning home upon death shouldn't be a problem. But forming a crew while far away can be difficult. You need to be within range of someone to invite them to join, so getting your friends to your island when they are still new could be a problem, you can't swim forever!
If you are a pirate, you should first establish a crew before heading out and fighting. Laying low until while getting stronger fighting weak enemies is a good way to avoid confrontation with the big name pirates who control the sea. Avoid targeting large marine warships, towns, or other government establishments until you can protect yourself. Remember that the marines can be just as strong, if not stronger, than pirates. Not just that, but they are all on one side while pirates are divided into mostly opposing crews.
Dying and losing what you have isn't fun. Try not to die unless you are fully prepared to go down.
