--- Quote from: Supersylox on March 04, 2012, 05:28:35 PM ---Hey, guys, in Star Trek Online, are you required to be Federation, or can you be other races, such as Borg and Species 8472? --- End quote --- --- Quote from: ChexGuy331 on March 04, 2012, 05:32:45 PM ---Right now you can only be Klingon or Federation, and you have to unlock Klingon at Federation level...16? 20? Something like that. --- End quote --- I think it is Level 22 that you unlock a Klingon Character. I know I didn't get it immediately when I turned Commander. You start of as being a member of Starfleet and are almost any race. You can't be a Klingon or Cat-person without buying it with Cryptic Points, which are a premium currency (You can either buy them from the Cryptic website or exchange another in-game free currency (Dilithium), which is rare, for them in a player-to-player exchange market). If you are a member of Starfleet you can be most races, such as Human, Vulcan, Andorian, Ferengi, etc... You have the ability to create an "Alien" race, which is basically a blank-slate for you to design a new species and give it a name, which gives you the ability to create a character similar to a non-playable race. The Species 8472 (Undine) are not playable as they're not Federation or Klingon friendly and always play as enemies, same as the Borg. However with the Borg I think there are some purchasable (C-Points) items which are Borg-like. The Seven of Nine set allows you some borg-decoration but it is female only. Once you reach a certain level, which is level 20-22, you gain the ability to make a character in the Klingon Empire. Your character in the Empire can be Klingon, Gorn, Orion (?), Nausicaan or a few more or you can make it Alien and create your own race or emulate another one. Your character in the Klingon Empire starts off at Level 20-22 as well so you won't find yourself at the completely ass-end of the levelling system. Making a Klingon Character will however cost you a character slot. You have a maximum of 2 character slots on a regular non-premium account but you can unlock more (4, is it?) by buying additional slots of 2 with C-Points. These new slots can then be another Klingon or Federation character. --- Quote from: Supersylox on March 04, 2012, 06:51:08 PM ---and is land combat still as stuffty as everyone is saying??? --- End quote --- It's not perfect, but I've gotten used to it. So long as you're in manual mode you're quite alright and I've gotten good at using flank-tactics and my Bridge-Crew's abilities are helpful, particularly their shield and Medical Tricorder. The only problem I really have is that in order to fight well on ground I have to be in manual FPS firing mode instead of RPG mode. Which means I can't quick-use my tools on my tray unless they're on the tray of 0-9. I don't know how I select other tools without clicking on them as well if they're in another tray. It really distracts me in both space and ground battles because sometimes I have things which are on a second tray which I need to click and moving to click distracts me from piloting or watching my enemies. I know all the other buttons have numbers on them, like C1-C9, but I don't know how to use them with the press of a key. |

So with the whole make your own alien thing, to what depth can you customize it, and do you get your own custom ships too? And as it requires level 22 to be Klingon, are they massively OP or something? Also, if you get Cryptic points with Dilithium, do you have to trade it with players who do have the cryptic points, or do you give it to a space station or something? |

The developers have created some of the best customizers I've seen in an MMORPG. I can't really explain it in detail, but short answers are yes and yes, if you mean changing skins, modules and interiors for the ships. And as it requires level 22 to be Klingon, are they massively OP or something? Probably in PvP, yes. --- End quote --- --- Quote from: sir dooble on March 04, 2012, 06:56:27 PM ---The only problem I really have is that in order to fight well on ground I have to be in manual FPS firing mode instead of RPG mode. You could switch over your keys to adapt to the arrowkeys and numpad, or you might be able to assign them to the F-keys if you don't mind losing some sort of convenience. |

It was an option for lifetime subscribers to gain access to a liberated borg drone to start your character. It was available for both Fed and KDF factions, although I heard rumors that might be removed. Might end up in the C-Store in time. The character creation is an amazing process and allowed me to create a race of aliens only existing in my head since I was in High School. (12 years) It has a combination of existing race options to customize including some newer options for added variety. It gives you three detailed customization options: The head, The body, and Uniform. Here's an example.. It's insanely detail oriented. Ship customization isn't as extensive. they give you a cannon ship and two variants (sometimes more depending on C-Store costume options) and in some cases, you can make some badass ship options. Here are a couple of my favorites. Ground battle is decent. I like how it works. It fits a lot of many MMORPGs formats so it's not difficult to get used to. I haven't tried that fps option too much because there is not option to not shoot. it seems to just fire until you turn it off. |

Really? It only fires when I click for me. |
