Yeah, I'm going to have to find a way to jack up taxes or something so that people who just slide the sliders all the way in one direction go bankrupt and their stuff explodes.

How about the employees get paid more or less depending on how long their in the factory lot. Would that work with what you have in mind?

My hat thing is a no go. You can't track in which direction the player is looking.

Are factories going to be self-contained units where laborers have a safe place, isolated from other people such as criminals?

Also, can a food lot be attached to a factory?
