Actually, that goes for real life conversations where you're speaking loudly too. People usually aren't even trying to be discreet before they use this line, so I never understood why it was used. Is it one of those pathetic last-second comebacks?

Yeah, it is.
There's this guy in my class and he thinks he's the king of us all just because we're all autistic and he isn't.
I often get in arguments with him and his only defenses are either not letting me finish my sentence by saying bullcrap such as "lalalala, did I hear something?"(which is really mature for a 14 year old guy) or "I wasn't talking to you".
