This loving stinks.  :panda:
Would you rather have Blockland not have anymore new interesting features just so you could have your maps?

If you're stuck playing the same old game for all eternity, it'd get boring eventually, wouldn't it? Every game has to change eventually so that it adds something new and interesting, point is, Blockland can't stay in the past, there comes a time in every games life where they have to change to add more to it so it's players can continue to have fun

People used to ask for better graphics, well, here it is, it's not how you wanted it, but it's how it's gotta be

If terrain is removed there had better be some good brick terrain generators.

Removing terrain does not restrict our creativity.
Map making is not the purpose of Blockland.

I think all this fuss is rather silly.

Let the developers develop their own game or make your own.

You know, it's really hard for most of you guys to understand how me and Jorgur feel.  I highly doubt that most of you have put years into developing great RPGs that rely on terrain and interiors.  And now v21 will take our hard work an basically destroy it.  You must understand, it takes years to develope these mods.  We have spent days on end reforming our code and scripting these RPGs.  The feeling that all of your hard work for the past few years will go down the drain is just horrific.

I'm not saying that everyone should be against it.  I'm sure that many people do not use interiors and terrain in their daily lives and actually would much rather have shadows.  And i'm also sure that many people that make mods using interiors and terrain are fine with v21 and would much rather have shadows.

I don't really care what side you are on.  Just understand that 2 years of my life have been focused on making StoneQuest better and better.  I guess I could make just make it out of bricks, but it just wouldn't be the same.  Just like Jorgur says, if this actually happens, it will really hurt blockland's creative potential.

If badspot didn't want terrain and interiors, he shouldn't have introduced them in the first place.

Sure you're passionate about the interiors and terrain but I think limitations breed creativity. So instead of complaining why not start thinking how you can still make your mod work with bricks as your terrain and interiors? If it makes production slower and that's what upsets you then I suppose you'll have to be more patient.

I have been here for years wishing I could use ingame lighting effects to better not only my builds, but my machinimas.

I understand the nostalgia behind all of this, but I've been here going on five years now, and this is the most anticipated update for me since physics.

Fine, fine, have your backwards compatibility or whatever, but please don't ruin the whole update by delaying it or postponing it for the rest of us.

I highly doubt that most of you have put years into developing great RPGs that rely on terrain and interiors..
I slaved for months and months over a hot laptop making the interior for BL_Construct, choosing textures that looked similar to GM_Construct, making it as close as i could, aligning it to the brick grid the best i could, some areas can't be sealed using only bricks, you need one or two plates, that bugs me, but i'm not going back to fix that little issue, then i had to make the lighting good enough for the map since the way lighting works is different from the Source Engine, rotating the sun, fixing the water, adjusting it's properties, adjusting the terrain to be similar but flat enough to build on, choosing textures for the terrain, blending the terrain with the interior

But now all my hard work is going away, yet i'm still happy and can't wait to have this update

It's not years of work put into a build that relies heavily on the environment, but you get my point

I'm sure this will make the creative aspect bigger though, because building the terrain can be a great thing, it may take ages, but really, think about it, bricks look better than terrain and we could have pro brick builders making terrain.

What about the tutorial? Will there be a new build/evented one?

Yes.

Damnit I wish I had the link...

The current tutorial mentions secret areas in maps, after this update, there will no longer be interiors to have secret areas, so of it has to be redone

Like Chrono and multiple others have said, we are not losing terrain and interiors for just shadows. It will be easier for Badspot and kompressor to push out updates and other things. But whatever, lets keep terrain, lets keep interiors, and never get another update. Just keep Blockland at it's current state because apparently, change is bad.

Or maybe just make a download available somewhere for an unmaintained v20 build with interiors and terrains which won't be updated.
