I think either-
-Unity3D
-CryEngine
-Creation(skyrim and whatnot)
-Bioshock Engine
-Anything that's not Torque related that can handle stuff that blockland can't do as of now.

While I would support anything that would get us rid of Torque, I can't for my life see him rewrite the whole game for a different engine.
Awdax:
kompressor said he knows how other engines work and he can code for them, something along the lines of that. The thing is, they don't want to spend 18 months re-coding the entire game for a different engine. It just isn't worth the time and effort right now.

Your kindergarten remark makes no sense. And what is this reason?
--- Quote from: Lalam24 on February 10, 2012, 04:24:45 PM ---This doesn't promote building what so ever. You can argue that it forces people to build, yes, but that's individual insentive, NOT something physically produced from the game.
Both examples are TINY in comparison to what I'm referring to. An ENTIRE environment you can explore without end -- can you replicate this with bricks? No, you cannot.
Don't fix something that isn't broken.

You keep posting that "Don't fix something that isn't broken" phrase. Applying that here is the same logic as having a car with a crank start instead of an automatic ignition.
Anyway, you bring up the point of an "ENTIRE environment you can explore without end". Who actually does that? Who sits and walks for minutes on end into the reoccurring landscape? Hardly anyone. In fact, it's such a small minority that it should not even be relevant to this argument. Most servers that use terrain and such are based around a particular area from which few people go outside of. Infinite terrain isn't needed and a terrain generator could cover the rest.
Take a look at the server list. As of right now, there are 106 servers up. Out of these 106, only 34 are non-slate maps. That means that 68% of servers could care less about terrain and/or interiors. Out of those remaining 34, about only 14 really use terrain (as opposed to interiors ie Bedroom). That means that only 13% truly care about terrain. Here's where I'm going to make some assumptions. Most servers that use a terrain map generally have a focal point from which a good 90% of everything in the server surrounds. The radius from this point is relativity small (most don't even reach repeat terrain), meaning that "ever-expanding terrain" isn't even useful for them (meaning that it wouldn't be "impossible" to create the terrain with bricks). We are now left with a very small selection of servers who truly use this system of terrain. These servers are hardly populated and generally have no real use of this infinite terrain.
The majority of Blockland wants this update and Badspot is going to release it despite how much the minority protests. If you're truly looking for a game with "infinite" places to explore, please go play minecraft. It does that task so much better than Blockland ever has.

Take terrains all you want I never liked them that much, but please keep interiors!
