Ok yes this is about the update but it's not a clone thread. This is not to argue which is better, flame a side, etc.. But rather to brace for the upcoming change. So, I think we've been put past the point of no return by default. Though things will be loved and missed, and folks will never adapt. I have accepted it as it must be. If the majority prefers the update so be it.

So what we're mostly presented with is graphics over gameplay, and "possibilities of overall enhancements." So I barely care about the first part but hopefully the second will live up. With these new graphics, comes a question. The game-market is visually-driven in many aspects, does anyone think this will give blockland a more mainstream appeal? Were such a userbase-jump to occur how would it be handled? I'd say this is a more the merrier case in the maps and such that would come out but the user-related issues would jump as well.

Another thing to consider is obviously the map thing, perhaps terrain builders will become glorified demi-gods. I've got no skill at such and wouldn't mind some tutorials.

The most damaging thing here for me is water. Water blocks are there but we can't truly recreate water terrains, water blocks are very mediocre and limiting.

What else is there to consider?

I love game industry lectures from professionals.
tell us more about how this update isnt what will target the sandbox multiplayer market.

edit;
i disagree about the water bricks sucking. i prefer them over the terrain waters.
we are missing terrain bricks now. (cubes help but arent enough) i would like official bl ones made by komp and baddy so that they are on every server and work just the same.
the only reason users want maps is because building terrain is a brick count killer (or lag) BL devs need to address this with this update.

God dammit. When I read this:

I honestly thought this was going to be a well-deserved topic.

But then you sneak this bullstuff in there:

You seem to have no idea what you are going on about.

Did accidentally put a back-handed slap in there, I posted that in hopes of being proven incorrect.

Bisjac:

the "graphics dont make the game" arguments are a total loss on the true logic of retailing games.

we have to compete. if blockland had no closed box appeal, then there are no new members buying the game.
badspot is an indie developer, he dosnt have the luxury of his team working on a new massively funded project by the publisher hes under. if hes not earning on blockland, its either time to retire blockland, or change it.
