A pair of simple, 2500/15000-line puzzle games show no capability of being able to create a large-scale MMORPG.
Much less a 3D one.
People who make MMORPGs are in their 30s, have went to college and universities, majored in multiple fields, have quite a bit of money to back them up, and have an actual, functional team dedicated to specific portions of the project.
You can't just "poof", and create a game like this, not even an engine for it.
You need time-tested material and decades' worth of experience.

While we are raising money for Torque 3D, we are making smaller scale 2D MMORPGs, with Torque 2D. By the time we have enough money for Torque 3D, we will have been familiar with creating 2D MMORPGs, which will make 3D ones fairly easier.
As for the models go, Torque 3D comes with a large library of models, and any others ones we need we will make ourselves. If a model is too detailed and will lag the game, we "Dumb" it down, basically.

Whos in charge of networking?

http://chaoproductions.net/zones.html.
I do not know if anyone else is past that stage in the team yet, because all other people are modelers.

Oh, apparently a simplistic 2D platformer is the logical predecessor to making a 3D MMORPG.

THIS. Don't underestimate networking. Torque has good networking, but it's not good enough for an MMORPG.
