Must be some kind of twisted punishment for either having supported an indie game developer (eric)by purchasing his game or for paying for your email address...

What is cigarettea-whaty editing anyway? Whats so annoying about it?

Ok no one should be able to modify now. You guys have no idea what a nightmare the smf permission manager is.

The bottom line is that I'm sick of seeing an blank post with <<edited by somenoob on blah date>> then a bunch of replies of people freaking out for one reason or another. Or seeing help threads that are just "nm i figured it out". If I could see the original posts it would be fine but I can't so it sucks.

The forum situation really needs work.

I think there should be mods for viewing edit history. I've seen them for phpBB.

I think that Badspot is trying to find a good balance with user permissions, which will probably take a while, I think he's probably just trying out different settings for different usergroups.

Off-Topic is a little different, an example of this would be in the Help Section:

I make a topic about <Blockland Problem Here>. I post my information, and a description of the problem. Then a group of people come into the topic and help me fix the problem.

After having my problem taken care of, I edit my post to say: "lolnvm, problem solved!!!1". After doing this, Badspot does not have a description of the error, and while the error is fixed, there is no longer a way to tell what caused it, and Blockland cannot be patched to fix or avoid the issue.
