But some of the good vehicles for BL like Strato's M-35 and HL Buggy go straight through bricks if they collide too fast, even ramps. And there are people who's computers aren't among the gods and will easily get lagged out by the number of bricks it takes to make a uneven terrain on a 32x32 plate. Even my computer, with a Zotac 9500GT, gets a little lag from city RP's. The only real way to have a map entirely out of bricks and still not get lag would be to have almost no detail and perfectly flat terrain. Plus, almost everyone's idea of a tree in a forest-like environment is just the default tree brick, and foliage is a lot better and easier on the video card with the 2D bushes then it is with bricks.
I'm not saying there should be no shadows casts by bricks, but I prefer terrain over shadows. The interiors are only extra. I actually prefer to join a server and find that the buildings are made of bricks instead of a spawn inside an interior being referred to as a "base." But removing terrain takes quite a bit of BL's awesomeness out. Not to mention the feeling of being shrunk while playing with Legos in your backyard is also lost. Plus Slopes is probably the best maps out there for skiing. What will happen the that when there are no slopes left to ski on?
Warning! While you were typing, Wehrmacht also tried to flame you!
I prefer brick buildings over interior for many reasons, one of which being that it's actually destructible! I also prefer being able to have events in my buildings and plan it out myself. One of the biggest reasons is that it's guaranteed to be perfectly aligned with the grid used for brick placing.
With that said, I believe Slate (and it's edits) are only practical in space builds, naval battles, or really just servers that require vast amounts of openness. Other than that, maps like GSF Forest, Blizzard and Dead Man's Land (last two are more for TDM's, in my opinion) are are some of the best choices for a lot of server themes.
Also, we have plenty of slate AND terrain maps. People who have enough skill and planning wits to make a lag-free terrain navigable by vehicles and still large with at least some degree of detail can use slate whenever they please. People who are only good at building buildings generally stick to interior-less maps with terrain. To be honest, now that I've thought about it enough to write this, I don't really care if interiors are eliminated. I'm just a disappointed that terrain is going.
