Sometimes at school, when i leave my computer on at home, I hear the steam message sound, then when I get home theres a steam message there. its just a coincedence though.

This also happens to me. I guess some sort of phenomenon is that when you hear a certain sound a lot your brain reproduces it in your mind sometimes.
