I also found a snakeskin shield to replace my gold one, and a def+spd pot to compensate for the shield having less def than gold.

Are potions that increase your stats perma are very rare? While i was in the volcano area, a god i killed dropped a potion of speed that increased my speed but died soon after to a cube god.
