Half-Life - Is my game glitched or is Nihilanth really impossible to beat?

Okay, I reached Nihilanth a few hours ago, and I'm still struggling to beat him. How the forget is it even possible?
1. The platform at the very top is impossible to reach, no idea why it's even there.
2. Nihilanth ALWAYS closes his head when I'm above him
3. He propels to an unreachable height whenever I try to jump up to him
4. His loving minions get in the way all the time
Seriously, I really want to beat this so I can go play the expansions.

I beat this guy on the hardest difficulty, he's incredibly easy. Use jumppads to get to the top platform, jump before he opens his head and not when his head is opened. Shoot at his open head.
His minions are pushovers.
For a boss on "hard" mode he's incredibly easy to kill.

i got bored and i used the crowbar the whole battle... it was fun lol i got stuck in his head and just crowbar'd him to death XD
