I'm going to explain this once, and hopefully I never have to quote myself on this in the future. There is no chance there will be an option that allows you to turn off the Shadows and Shaders update, and allow terrains and interiors to be used. Like many people have said, they complicate the code and cannot co-exist alongside each other in the code for now.
As said, terrains and interiors complicate the code - and having them removed will allow the developers to include updates not previously possible, and include them easily without having to work around terrains and interiors.
Now there is also the problem with future updates. You have your version with shadows and shaders, and you have your version with terrains and interiors. The updates that are added after the shadows and shaders will not work for your terrains and interiors update because they will be coded differently. I doubt very much the developers will code one update for the shadows and shaders version of Blockland, and code another work-around for the terrains and interiors version.
So you're getting shadows and shaders and losing terrains and interiors. It's inevitable and you're going to have to deal with it. In the future the developers could find a new way to include terrains and interiors that doesn't screw up everything - but don't count on it.

not only do they complicate the code, it would put more strain on the engine of the game, it either one or the other and i vote for lighting. I'm still going to miss the hell out of terrain maps. buh bye gsf
