As anticipated by the recently leaked box art discoveries, Crysis 3 was rumored to be announced.  Crytek, via their Twitter account "@Crysis", mentioned that a very important announcement was due for today, April 16.  The announcement was the introduction of Crysis 3, the next chapter of the first-person sandbox shooter games that have been notable for breaking the norms of first person shooters and also breaking your system (unless you play it on the console like a gigantic tool).

Confirmed facts:
  • Prophet is the new protagonist - ... Yeah.  (spoiler)After dying in Crysis 2, he somehow comes back in Crysis 2 at the very end magically.  This will hopefully be explained.(/spoiler)
  • The setting is New York City (again), but in the year 2047;  For reference, Crysis took place in 2020 and Crysis 2 was in 2023.  New York City is now even more of an urban jungle; taking "jungle" literally as it is now completely overrun with plants and wildlife.  With the new actual urban jungle setting, it will likely be open as the original Crysis was, and not as linear as Crysis 2.
  • CELL is back; the military contractors running under the Hargreave-Rasch company have erected "nanodomes", and apparently their plan is to do this with multiple infestation zones in order to assert control (over the entire god damn world).  New York City is referred to as "Liberty Dome" and will have "seven distinct and treacherous environments", and Prophet has somehow penetrated into the Liberty Dome to kill Ceph and find answers (possibly as to why the hell CELL wants do rule the world and maybe what happened to the other original members of Raptor team in the original game).
  • Prophet has an "enhanced nanosuit" and a nanobow.  No clue on how the suit is "enhanced" and how the bow will work really.
  • Due for Spring 2013 with multiple pre-order bonus packs (Stalker/Overkill/Predator packs), each giving some unique early weapon access and some pretty little skins.
  • Still runs on CryEngine 3, the same engine used for Crysis 2, and will be released on PC as well as Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and... the Wii U.  It will be on Origin for those digitally downloading it most likely, as EA has been shunning the use of Steam since booting their Origin service.

say goodbye to your gpu folks

This series is gonna turn into the next CoD. A "new" title every year.

I really hope they return to what Crysis 1 was like. Crysis 2 was pretty stuffty compared to Crysis 1, it wasn't nearly as open as the original.

It's hard to say really "every year", but I see what you mean.  Especially with multiplayer, I can feel it's going to be very much the same.  I say that it's hard to say every year because Crysis came out fall 2007, Crysis 2 came out spring 2011 and Crysis 3 is due for spring 2013.

I highly agree with this, both your statement and the image.  I found the typical Crysis 2 approach of "TACTICAL OPTIONS AVAILABLE" to be really repetitive and annoying.

was excited until Origin. no thanks.

>I'm pretty sure Alcatraz just adopted the name of Prophet when the suit, AKA Prophet, spoke to him. Technically, Prophet didn't magically come back, but rather was trapped inside the suit somehow.<

Anyways, looks cool. Too bad it would make my computer sound like a Boeing 757

Is it good that I didn't buy Crysis 1 or/and 2 or bad?
Cause I'm gonna buy this.

Don't worry, It won't.

hah

Buying because of the bow and arrow. It will probably be a complete pushover and you get the bow at the end of the game or some crap.

-snip-
Whats so bad about that its supposed to be stronger than a 360 and a PS3.

Until the next Xbox which is rumored to be 20% more powerful than the Wii U
