because backing up a gig is really worth it when all it does is reduce loading speed

The cache makes your load faster when connecting to servers. It doesn't slow down the game, where did you get that from?

The launcher doesn't do anything to the cache file as far as I can tell.
I deleted the cache.db once and the launcher had to download around 1000 files.

Incorrect, it stores all the downloaded files in it before verifying the HDD contents against it.

It would be better if the hundreds of files were just reduced down to a few files. Is there a possibility of that?
