Tips on making my models look better?

Refresh textures didn't work, wat do?

What is your 3d view set to? Flatshaded, smoothed, or textured.

Flatshaded most of the time, i swap to Smoothed and Textured it still doesn't work.
Extrude:
Black = Backfaces. You aren't doing it correctly if you get backfaces.
