It's a simple rule that a lot of photographers use sometimes.

I took these in 16:9 aspect ratio for use of desktop wallpapers, I also submitted all of them to http://www.wallbot.net so you can get them in high resolution if you wanted to use them.

All images taken by me with a LGE-P350 phone at 2048x1536 (~3 mpx).

Ehh, the colours are a little washed out for my tastes. Have you tried editing them in post? I usually spend 5 minutes or so per photo editing it to look bearable.
