Don't go posting "this has been suggested 100s of times".
I know. You don't need to say that.
Xalos:
This would work just fine. The only problem is that it would mean a huge amount of up/down throughput is hoarded for something which not everyone would use.

There would, of course, be an option to turn it on and off.
Counter98:
I hate using mics, because if you turn it off, you don't know what people are saying.

If you turn it on, you get to hear lovely songs. Especially terrible ones.
shadowworrior:
and rly just get Skype and create a chat room and add the ppl on your server to it ( whole lot simpler)
Sevara:
Programming mics is always tricky, hence why most games either use a plugin-based voice chat or leave people to use dedicated programs like Ventrilo or Teamspeak.  The C++ has to be modified to let the program "see" the hardware, which could inadvertently lead to a whole barrage of backdoor exploits, and probably most of the players would suddenly get new amounts of lag, due to the massive throughput to keep even a heavily compressed audio session running.  Keep in mind, a 128Kbps MP3 is about 20x compression, and it still comes in at about 1MB a minute.

If you've got the bandwidth, just run Vent, TS, or Skype.
