I used to do that (the whole "look how clean it is, keep it that way!") thing, but it's really hard to stay motivated and clean your room when the tiniest piece of trash appears if you're sharing a room with a lazy brother who doesn't clean.
Just... Get one of those extended grabber sticks to make it easier.
