I guess that's never really been a problem for me since Game Maker versions 7 and older do the whole transparency thing automatically. Which can be kind of annoying since it uses the color of the bottom-leftmost pixel as the "transparent" color, so I'm glad they changed it in later versions, even if I don't use them. |

Just use some obnoxious color you would never reasonably use like bright cyan. Then when you're done, if you REALLY need transparency for something, just erase that one color in some other program. |

I suppose can respect your choice of program, but for someone like me, an editor without transparency support is like being born with one leg. |
