It's intriguing to see how you paint over the black instead of like starting from scratch.
It's a system that just works for me
I've tried just starting from scratch and it's the most infuriating thing ever for me because I have no idea how it's going to turn out and it often ends up looking bad or I'm just dissatisfied with the result, or I simply give up halfway through. So I've come around to making a loose silhouette to get the general size and proportions down, and then i go around filling it in with the detailing and adjusting it as needed. It gives me a better idea of how it's gonna look when it's finished.

I did the forgeter on the left without the silhouette method and it took me like, an entire afternoon of trial and error that left me feeling like it wasn't worth it. The one on the right I drew up a silhouette for and banged it out in what couldn't have taken more than an hour.
Also since there's interest here's how i did the power armor.

It's still not done, I'm going to give it different colors for the final version. I've also since
beefed up the legs.
