I think the fact that the Steambox is in development is pretty telling of when the next generation will come around.

It's true. They're also the most cost effective. While gaming computers cost the most upfront, years down the road, instead of having to buy a whole new one, all you have to do is upgrade your graphics card. Unlike Xbox, where you have to buy a new oner every time it comes out or risk losing support.

Eventually Valve will pop out a new console that can have both hardware and software updates easily. Then the race is over, especially if Valve patents it.

Trust me, the next gaming race will be mobile gaming.
