You don't even have to be careful whilst browsing the internet.

Five quick tips to avoid getting viruses:
#1: Don't download without being 100% sure it's not a virus
#2: Don't click on any ad ever
#3: Come to terms with yourself and realize that the number of anti-viruses you download are probably the cause of the malware on your computer
#4: Don't trust russian sites
#5: Adblocker is vital

Once got a virus that opened a window every time I tried to open another program.
Opened Windows Defender, ended process
Deleted the exe
no more virus
[cool glasses]

I believe the concept for ransomware existed in the late 80s but It's only been recently in the last two or three years that it's taken off. This latest form of malware/ransomware that I'm talking about is most likely the start.

I've had part of a virus left which turns on proxy settings for Firefox every time I open Firefox.
The proxy is a localhost listener that I had long since removed.
