Author Topic: [SUGGESTION] [RTB] Make RTB growl compatible  (Read 1054 times)

Now before you go and flame me about having a mac, I think that having RTB be growl compatible would be a great extension. Growl is a more or less notification system for mac OS X, and can be found here: http://growl.info/.

I understand that this addition would only affect a small majority of users, as most players of blockland use a windows computer, but you cant deny that it would be cool to be able to see your RTB friends or messages pop up on your screen if you have blockland running in the background, as I commonly do.

Thank you for your time.

About 1/2 of people on Blockland have macs. And I don't think this would be possible as all game engines aren't TGE 1.3, and there is a major lack of third party software for it. It would be nice, yes, but what about windows users? Are we just going to be left out of it?

What? Is that true?

well, more or less. it's probably somewhat drifting on the windows side, but it's not most people. some use linux or fedora or whatever so we can't get too scientific about it

You used to be able to see if someone were hosting Mac on the master list because of an "m" on the end of the version field, but the field was removed. Less than 30% had Macs.

i'm not saying i am the lord of downloads and i know exactly who downloads mac and who downloads the windows versions, i'm just saying it can't be 99% windows .5% mac and .5% other.

You all have good points, however, is it at all possible to integrate growl?

I don't think there is a windows version of growl, so unfortunately, they would be left out.

i'm looking on here and i'm guessing it would work for html and java but not torque

though, if RTB could create an off-Blockland chat service, such as when you could go to the RTB room on IRC, and would be connected with friends in real time

Pretty sure that this would be impossible as an add-on since Blockland add-ons are unable to interact with other programs.

Because no one can modify the engine.

Darn, ok.

That sucks, but it was a longshot anyway.

Thanks for your help all.

Sarcasm, Greek should've known better.

No sarcasm intended, but I did some research before posting, and it would require mods to the engine, so thought I would get a second opinion.

Ok, currently it's not possible. It will be if Badspot changes some stuff in the engine.

How does Growl work?
Could you somehow call it to open a popup via TCPObjects?

External program perhaps?
