I tried a new build for Alistar.
Extremely silly and amazing lategame.
I ended up with Will of Ancients, Trinity Force, Ionian Boots of Lucidity, Shurelya's Reverie, and a Banshee's Veil. The other slot was just for wards.
For some reason or other this combination was absolutely perfect and at the end I could go into a fight and tank however much it took while dealing immense damage and healing/speeding up my teammates, and making sure that enemies didn't escape.
I know that build is rediculous but it was also kinda called for since our team was extremely strange all over. Our Shaco managed to carry us through mid-game and then I was able to pick up the occasional kill and plenty of assists through everything and got enough cash to become useful lategame.
Shaco ended with 561 AD, and he coulda made it to 600 had he gotten the CS before we won.

i have a hard time believing that you were THAT tanky because none of your items are solid tank items.

shoulda rolled with randuin's omen.

Well of course I have my ult running when I start taking damage. That's reducing everything by a rediculous amount. I have 0/21/7 masteries and pretty comprehensive runes. Banshee's veil is a lifesaver too, really. The cooldown reduction that I had + units being killed around me during the fight allowed me to heal all over the place. I also had that bit of spell vamp (which actually saved my life when I was tanking baron since only a few of us were actually there getting it and it was taking a while).
Say what you will, it worked for me.
