Build is meh, tried it before but maxing W is really good if you come to the lane with any form of mana regen because you won't be leaving any time soon.
Maybe do something like Faerie charm, 4 red 2 blue and a ward, back when you can afford a philo+avarice and become bankplank who never leaves lane until he can afford 2 big items at once.

In my opinion maxing Q is always essential. The gold return from it helps you scale very well into late game. The damage output is nice also.
But I can see the benefits of maxing W as well and even maxing E has its upsides.

Maxing W is a good way to trick them if you try to all in because if you pop a 200+ heal that early during a skirmish/gank you can turn it around or live through it.
Basically if you want to out-sustain the other laner/trade harass with less drawbacks.
Avarice core though, always get it on GP. Shiv is stupidly good on him.

Also, just realized that Udyr is a god and I have no idea what I'm doing with him
Was going 9/2, threw hardcore, but still won 11/9/20
Build was terribad, but I just didn't care
I wreaked havoc, and when Lulu ulted me there was just nothing they could do.

Yes, we all know udyr is broken.
Now go away before you give me nightmares about season 1 udyr and the innervating locket
