I actually enjoyed the Hookblade a ton
You could use ziplines from rooftop to rooftop
perform zipline assassinations
hook n' run (running at a guard and flipping over him making it easier to run through enemies)
hook grabs (running at a person or breakable object and using your hookblade to knock it down)

I've always wanted an open world naval/pirate RPG. I never expected it to be AC3.
I'm glad they've strayed from the eagle motif of previous games; it's gotten old.
His ship is called the Aquila.
Aquila is Latin for Eagle.
Dammit.
