They probably are.
It seems that Rock Pikmin are only good for combat
The 3 is made up of Red Flowers, which belong to Purple and White pikmin

along with the ability to break barriers, can probably lift as much as purple, has a heightened fire resistance and may be used for pressure pads
not sure about combat, because the best way to attack is to throw it directly onto an enemy, however it is probably hard to lift because of its assumed weight. probably can't swim either.
maybe they're perfect walls of defense and can damage the enemy if eaten

I myself wonder what terrible thing captain Olimar got himself into. The BOSS himself came to the Pikmin planet, and that is some serious stuff.
I hope they have the monster and treasure journals.
And there may be flying pink pikmin in-game. Pay attention to the very beginning of the video and you see them flying in the screen.

at the end of the trailer, there is also some type of bulgy redish-pink flying pikmin too. so that would be four special types
