All is fair is love and war. Well for starters don't be the the guy to get the side with the most cover, or the guy that idles on the corner. Also be a gentleman, don't be like in your face. Try and humorous whenever possible. If you loose, just remember you were playing for the fun of the game. Also don't be the guy with 50 Lemun Russes, 4 Baneblades, 2,000 infantry, and 400 deathworld veterans. Also avoid having creed lead your army, people will get made if they find a imperial class titan in their swimming pool.
Sounds like good advice, that, but I have been to a GW before, and I do know the basics of sportsmanship! Personally I've never really liked the idea of being "in your face" about something either, as it's just richardery (Though I have been guilty of this in some other stuff). I've always thought that it's better to try and have fun and be cool about things in general, and I've at least played skirmishes and stuff when I was younger. Maybe I should've said that? Then again this is my first time posting about me getting into the game in this thread. As for "tacticool jeanyus" Creed, I never intended to have special chars in any army I made anyways, I always thought they provided too many buffs as individuals. I'm not interested in vets either, since from what I've seen everyone uses them to carry the day by dumping them in a Chimera all kitted out.

I and my brother had the "Battle for Macragge" starter box, and I was building up a Tau army after that 'till I realized that my painting was atrocious, and I din't know who to play with (though my brother was collecting tyranids back then). Plus, the Tau are huge weeaboos. We only had the terrain from the Macragge set, too and our gameboard was good enough for the Macragge missions, but in my opinion not much else (though we still have most of the terrain).
I still have the Tau models and such all painted up (albeit badly). I had about 20(?) Fire Warriors with pulse rifles (2 with pulse carbines) bonding knives, and Shas'ui, an Ethereal w/ shield n' gun drones (useless), a normal battlesuit w/Fusion Blaster, Plasma Rifle and a multi-tracker, a Stealthsuit squad of 3 with a bonding knife and fusion blaster, and a Devilfish, though I'd wanted to do the option for swapping out its gun drones with Missile systems (pods?). I also had Kroot with a shaper with a pulse rifle. I was making a 500pt army, and it was mostly done save for a Broadside battlesuit with another system I've forgotten (I think it was a blacksun filter), which remains unpainted to this day. I have the finished models all in a box. I'd also gotten a Hammerhead, but when I was building the army I thought it was a bad idea to take vehicles (This was around 4th/5th ed and I had no idea what I was doing). I'd wanted to convert it into a piece of terrain like this old SM Whirlwind that'd been converted to look like it was wrecked and overgrown in a swamp. However, since I didn't have a belt sander (which was necessary to make the whirlwind look sunken), it never happened, and when my brother started getting back into wh40k with Orks in 2012, one of the first models he painted before getting better with painting was that same old Hammerhead!
Since we first got into it I and my bro always remained interested in 40k, and since my brother got me the Guardsmen on christmas, I asked my questions earlier. I've always liked the IG, mainly because I like their aesthetics and they have brass balls unlike certain other
wimps. They just seem to me a bit more relatable. As for IG cheese, are you talking about Apocalypse specifically or normal games too? With the Imperium being the way it is fluffwise (along with ingame Infantry Platoon blobs n' cheap Russes and all), should large numbers of units be considered cheese?
Also, still wondering about
collector IG stuff. Still looking for an opinion on the Steel Legion, since like I said earlier if I truly get into the game I may wind up fighting Orks a lot anyways and they seem decently priced (Infantry squads, that is). Also still wondering about what to give my current WIP squad equipment wise.

- How come so many people don't base their minis? It's easy and makes them look good, just slap some plasticard or greenstuff on their feet to keep them from looking like they're sinking.

- Why do so many people play Space Marines? I mean, they're basically wh40k's mascots, but even then there's so many other armies with different playstyles and model aesthetics that I kinda find it confusing as to why everyone wants to play the Spehss Muhrehnss.

TL;DR Thanks, useless personal wh40k background (really egotistical), more questions on tactics n' models? I guess I just wanted to get all of this nonsense out 'cus I almost never get into the wargaming community. Thanks.
