What to use to make addons,

Hey i have always wanted to make addons, I have tried to use blender:/ so long and confusing. How ever is there a better product thats free. I was also wondering if somehow there is a way to use google Sketchup for moddling...

Blender is free... and as far as I've heard it's the best, but I also find it very complex.

You can use Google Sketchup, but you have to export it to .obj then import into Blender/Milkshape and export again into .dts
