One thing you can try is to make sure the controller is connected before starting the game.
If that doesn't work, follow these steps to help me figure out the problem.
* Make sure the xbox controller is the only controller plugged into the pc.
* Start the game after you make sure the controller is detected by the pc.
* At the main menu open the console by pressing the tilde ( ~ ) key on the keyboard.
* Finally paste this into the console, echo( getJoystickName(0) ); , then tell me what it says.
