I'm considering playing offline when I do my playthrough. In one of my videos I got invaded by another player. :/
If you don't know what invading is in Dark Souls, it's basically when another player can jump into your game at any given moment if you have humanity on you. He/She then gets the opportunity to kill you for your souls and humanity.
Of course the guy who invaded me was a high level sandbagger invading people in a low level, beginner area.
