i clicked a shot and the timeline changed to show all the sounds played and such

now i can't select other shots and edit them

You're probably double clicking the shots, click the arrow that points upward on the top of the Timeline window, it's to the right of the Clip, Motion and Graph editor buttons

You only need to click a shot once to see it's animation sets

What i see needs work right away is the Engineer's animation in the last scene, he looks like a stiff action figure hopping about
