I think it would be nice if forumers could upload larger files as their avatars. I just created a .gif not very long ago and cannot set it as my forum avy because the file size is "too large" if you call 213kb large.

I suggest that all forum members get at least 500kb of bandwidth for their avatars. This way, anyone can have just about any avatar they want, and lets face it, people remember faces, not names. (excluding creeperforgets)

the avatar still has to be sent to the viewer each time they see it

Optimization and clever frame lengths are everything. My avatar is 10 seconds long with 219 frames.
