it's not really about the love, it's about the intent. it's just another way that an abuser can potentially manipulate their victims. i'm talking less about love and more about abuse; the context of the line about refusing love was specifically about how it could be used as an abuse tactic, and i'm just trying to explain how that could be the case

You're still not getting the point. Pretty much any action, including love (though probably not often), can be used as a part of abuse.
