You can goto ./OpenTTD/docs/ and create or edit a file called 'openttd.cfg' and tweak these values;

max_join_time = 50000
max_download_time = 100000
max_password_time = 200000
max_lag_time = 50000

values are 'ticks' and that max join time translates to 50 minutes
