Even it Badspot did get a cut by selling this on steam, the amount of new players joining would make the cut not even matter really.

You mean literally tens of thousands? Every new game on Steam gets a front-page spot for multiple weeks, and a spot in Coming Soon and New Releases for however long it takes before other games overtake it, which is usually a month or two.
