Serious Roleplay "Citizen, get to the wall!" Note: I apologize for the stuffty and rushed format, I didn't have much time to make this topic. What is serious roleplay? Serious roleplay is a fun and enjoyable experience on many games, namely Garry's Mod. Server themes range from Half Life two to City roleplays. What do I need for serious roleplay? All you really need is a copy of Garry's Mod, good typing skills, and an attitude to learn if you're new to serious RP. Serious RP gamemodes Even a DarkRP can be serious if it's done right and has the right players, but it's not usually serious. Bolded are free Underlined are private Italicized cost money The main RP gamemodes used in serious RPs are; * OpenAura OpenAura uses MySQL to store player and character data and is easily the widest used Serious RP gamemode developed. It uses a system with OpenAura as the base gamemode containing core functions and commands, with 'Schemas' put ontop of the base to add commands and content. Ex: OpenAura HL2RP * Clockwork Clockwork uses MySQL to store player and character data as well, and is the successor to OpenAura. It uses a similar system with schemas. * TacoScript TacoScript is based off of Tiramisu and CakeScript and is Taco N Banana's private gamemode. * Tiramisu Tiramisu is the unofficial successor to CakeScript. It does not use SQL databases to store data, and uses a similar system as OpenAura with schemas. * CakeScript G2/G3 CakeScript is an older Roleplay gamemode that I don't know much about, myself. * Nexus/kuroScript/Cider These are the older gamemodes that the developer of OpenAura and Clockwork created before he developed the aforementioned gamemodes. They are riddled with backdoors and are broken as of now. [/list] Good RP communities and servers (IMO) Incursion-Gaming [INC]: My new RP community I'm running with a friend. We currently run a Half-Life two roleplay and a Walking Dead roleplay. (Needs moar players pls, come help? :D) Community site Taco 'n Banana [TnB]: They use TacoScript and run an HL2RP, Terminator RP, and STALKER RP. Community site Hyper Gamer Network [HGN]: They run OpenAura with custom schemas for their STALKER Roleplay, as well as a Fallout schema, both on OpenAura. They run other servers, as well. I rented my server from NFO. Garry's Mod roleplay servers really need to be up 24/7 if you ever want to do anything off of it. People donate for things on many servers. You can, of course, host it yourself with SCRDS or a copy of OpenAura. OA can be downloaded off of the internet, of course, because paying for it is loving stupid and just about all OA servers are not legit copies. |
