Why does crouching look like going prone

the blockhead doesn't actually have visible legs to bend, so this would make sense

Take a quick look on how people who make MOCS make legomen crouch.

I think the blockhead should crouch when still, and when you start moving you crawl. (while holdin shift of course)
If the roof is to near, you'll just keep the crawling position.
