i'm not scared of the dark as long as i hear a sound that i recognize(i.e music, tv, etc)
but if it's completely silent or there's a sound that i don't recognize i'm really on edge

I'm not too afraid of darkness, just afraid of stuff happening in darkness. Like a creak in the house at midnight is obviously more suspicious than at noon. It's basic, humans like light. We can see fine and it's generally more warmer. With nighttime, it's just spooky stuff and burglars trying to steal your fine soaps.
