What it would do is, when someone posts something/edits something or replies to something it would show it as soon as the message was sent, instead of having people have to reload the page all the time.

I don't think this would be possible.

Or, if youtube complies, we could get their code for live comments, and whether to toggle it or not

yeah this is pretty much really possible.

would definitely require severe server sided changes, and might result in heavier load on the server end.

repeated queries by ajax to the server? mathematically this would cause an increase, and might be negligible depending on how efficient you get it, and how often the queries are

Misunderstood OP, thought he meant immediate posting.

No it wouldn't really increase the load anyway.
