Why would having a jagged zone lag?

Because in order to have a jagged zone, you'd have to have a bunch of zones.
The number of steps you shown is 3. That's 4 objects per ramped water you place.

the bricks face becomes invisible if it stretched from the top right of the brick to the bottom left; although mine was rounded
