The bottom wasn't colored, and probably not textured.

The result: Somthing that looks like a reflection.

This mod your suggesting is absolutely useless. No, this mod wouldn't look good at all either, especially because the part that isn't water on the brick would have to be a different brick or else it'd also be water. It would also look unnatural and wouldn't fit in well. And no one in the right mind would want to take the time to make something that uses 2 bricks as one.
TL;DR Stop being loving lazy and use plates, this would be ugly as stuff.
