What difficulty are you on? It usually takes about ~24 hornets to kill an HECU marine for me.

Yeah, there was actually a point where I was hiding behind some concrete cover right next to the garage door. I had killed so many marines with it, and they had helped me kill the grunts. After a while I realized the Osprey was dropping off soldiers. I tried to make a run for it (like a yard or two) but I was taken down within seconds.

I can imagine exactly what Gordon would look like with a ponytail. He looks like the kind of scientist that would have one.
